The Walk to Safeguard Judicial Independence

Lawyers from across the country, including Puvarasan Balaiyah and Amirul Syafiq from Puvarasan & Associates, took to the streets today to participate in the "Walk to Safeguard Judicial Independence." The event, organised by the Malaysian Bar, saw an estimated 1,500 legal professionals and members of the public march from the Palace of Justice to the Prime Minister’s Office in a powerful display of concern for the nation's legal system.
The protest walk, covering a distance of 2.6 kilometres, was a collective call to address several pressing issues, notably delays in judicial appointments and widespread apprehension over alleged interference in the judiciary. The lawyers, many in their official court attire, were a visible presence as they peacefully made their way to the administrative heart of Putrajaya, drawing attention to their cause.
Upon reaching the Prime Minister’s Office, a memorandum outlining the Malaysian Bar’s key demands was handed over to Datuk Zamri b Misman, Director-General of the Legal Affairs Division. The demands included a call for a thorough and immediate investigation into any claims of judicial meddling and for judicial vacancies to be filled swiftly to prevent further backlogs in the courts.
